East Midlands Airport is the busiest cargo Airport in the United Kingdom, many cargo airlines and charters come into the Airport every night to pick up and drop off Cargo. East Midlands has one runway only (09/27) and varies depends on the wind direction and speed. East midlands airport is located next to the M1 and is very close to the M6/M1 linking meaning that getting to the airport is very easy and quick. Cargo Charters for Formula 1 are also in around February to pick up the Formula 1 cars for the first race. Also Donnington GP Circuit is down the road from the Airport.
Overhead View near A453This location is a spot near to the A453 and the M1, this offers great view of landing aircraft on 27 and departing aircraft on the 09 heading. Although good ground shots cannot be attained due to the crash fence and Aircraft not going beyond taxiway W. Video footage can also be compromised due to the traffic noise of the A453 and M1. This spot also has plenty of parking with no charges and also here, you are very unlikely to be told to move away.

East Midlands AeroparkThis is the only official spot at East Midlands Airport. Visited by myself (Liam) and is a great place to go on a hot summers day. The Aeropark offers great views of Runway 09 landings and takeoffs but 27 landings cannot be seen although 27 rotations may be seen. The Aeropark is best for familys who want to watch the planes with their loved ones. Opening times vary as follows
(April - October) Thursdays 1030 - 1700 Saturdays 1200 - 1700 Sundays 1030 - 1700 Bank holidays except Christmas and Boxing day Closed all other days (November - March) Thursdays & Saturdays These Co-Ordinates should help you reach this location. Emergency Exit GateNot very far from the Aeropark. This view offers great views of both runway 09 and 27, photography can be difficult as you are facing south but is considered the best spot at the Airport. There are gaps in the fence to poke your lenses through but steps may be required on busy periods. The paths down the Airport are also muddy with dog walkers so you must watch out for dog walkers and dog mess also.

Overhead view, Castle Donnington Road
This view offers great views of Aircraft landing on 09 and climbs from the 27 heading. 09 is only used 25% of the time however. Shots can be achieved of aircraft arriving onto Runway 09 but 27 shots may not be possible and also aircraft taxi shots are too far away and aircraft usually only taxi up to taxiway H. Aside from the problems, aircraft can still be seen on the stands, on some taxiways, the runway, touching down and also takeoffs. Also here, video footage can be affected by traffic noise.

Airport Trail (Southeastern side)
This view is one of the most popular views at the Airport. Aircraft taxiing to runway 27 will come past you very close, you can even give them a wave as they taxi past! Unfortanatly, 09 shots cannot be done as by the time they reach the location, they are climbing and will vacate before they reach you. 27 shots are fantastic here and as this is not near any roads so filming will not be interrupted by road noise.
To get here, park your car at the Overhead view near A453 location and walk around the perimeter and you should see some raised elevation. This is the southeastern side. These Co-ordinates should help you reach this location Latitude: N52° 49' 44" (N52° 49.727') Longitude: W1° 18' 34" (W1° 18.574') __________________________________________________________________ |
Disused Crash GateThis crash gate is not far from the Crash gate next to the Aeropark (just a small walk on a muddy path). This location has a large paved but overgrown area. Here you can see arrivals (27 heading) very well and can gain some good shots of them landing and also taxiing onto the runway.
